Norman Eid was killed instantly and Fred Lent very seriuosly injured early Sunday morning when a car in which they were riding suddenly left the road and struck a telephone pole.On account of the condition of Mr.Lent,it seems difficult to learn just how the accident happened,as he was unable to talk much since the accident.Monday he was reported to be in critical condition,but latewr reports indicate that he will recover.John Eid,father of the unfortunate young man,drove to Oregon City Sunday evening,upon his return from Newprt,where he had been spending his vacation in company with Mrs.Eid and their daughter,Eliazbeth,and gave the circumstance a careful investigation.It seems that Mr.Lent was driving the car at a rapid rate of speed,traveling in the direction of Oregon City.When almost opposite Pulp siding the two right wheels went off the pavement and in trying to get back on the hard surface the driver lost control of the machine which plunge across the road and struck a telephone pole with terrific force.The accident happened about 12:30 Sunday morning,but it was much later whent he unfortunate men were discovered by the driver of a California stage.Mr.Eid was taken to the hospital in Oregon City where it was learned that his neck was broken. and the back bone fractured.He probably died instantly and never suffred pain. Norman Eid was born in Minnesota,January 7,1904,and came to Canby with his family several years ago.He was employed at the Lent Brothers garage.A couple weeks ago he was forced to lay off on account of injury sustained when a piece of steel pentrated the flesh covering his eye ball and he had been working only a day or two hen he met death in the accident. The funeral was held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon,Rev.W.B.Moore officiating,and internment was made in the Zion cememtary.All business houses closed in Canby Tuesday afternoon at the funerl hour. Norman Eid was born in Moorhead,Minn.,on January 7,1901,and died August 30,1925;aged 21 years,7 months,and 23 days.he is suvived by his father,John Eid,stepmother,Mabel Elizabeth Eid,three brothers,Clarence Leonard,Melvin Ingvald,Thodore Rudolph,one sister,Elizabeth Irene,and one step brother,Gerold Knight Bair,all of Canby.
