All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com September 16, 2007, 11:54 am Oregnoian March 28,1893 Funeral of L.H.Calkins L.L.Porter,master of the Masonic lodge here,went to Oswego today,accompanied by about a dozen members of the lodge,to lay the remains of the late L.H.Calkins to rest with Masonic honors.Mr.Calkins had been a member of this lodge for a great many years,and on account of his long membership he was recently placed on the honorary list.L.H.Calkins was an old and greatly esteemed settler of this county,being nearly 80 years of age at the time of his death,which occurred last Saturdday evening.He had been doing some little chores around the house and had just brought in an armful of wood and sat down in a chair,apparently to rest,when he expired without a struggle.So peaceful was the end that no one noticed anything amiss for some little time,when he was found to be dead.The fuuneral occurred from the house,and besides the family and a large circle of mourning friends,there was pesent a delegation of Masons from the lodge here and at Oswego,and a large delegation from ta Grand Army post in Portland,of which he was a member.
