Bates, and a resident of this ocmmunity for more than thirty years, died at her home in Canby Saturday evening. She had been ill but a few hours and heart trouble was said to have been the cause of her death. Mrs. Bates complained of falling ill during the forenoon and in spite of everything that medical attention could provide, she continues to fail until the end. Mrs. Bates was a strong,hearty woman with unusaul ambition and while she had been unwell considerably during her latter years, she was up and around most of the time.The day before her death she was out on the streets. Surviving members of the family are Chas. Bates,California;Geo. and Elroy Bates of Canby and Mrs. Eric Bowlsby, also of Canby. The funeral was held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon and internment was in Zion cemetary. During the funeral hour business houses of the city were closed,permitting all to pay their last respects to a beloved townswoman.Rev. Spies, an old time friend of the family,conducted the services. The Eastern Star lodge of Canby conducted the services at the grave.
