Mr and Mrs Kraft were married in Russia near Odessa, twenty five years ago and soon came to Canby ,Oregon and moved onto the farm that is now the twin rivers farm, where they lived for a number of years, and improved the farm greatly while there. In March 1910 they purchased the property where they now live in the city limits of Canby, and have accumulated a fortune and own 175 acres of ground,83 acres of which is in the city limits of Canby. Mr and Mrs Kraft have raised a fine family of children, loved by everyone that knows them/One girl,Amelia Kraft, being now employed on the Canby State Bank of Canby,Oregon;Chris Kraft and Peter Kraft farming at Canby, and Ernest Kraft being engaged in the candy business at Yakima,Washington. They have been very fortunate in never having a death in their family and being uniformly healthy and vigorous throughout their entire married life. By 8 o'clock in the evening the house was filled to overflowing with neighbors and invited guests, and a program of unusual merit was rendered, the songs being sung in German and the prayers and sermons also being in German. The occasion was unusual in more than one respewct. One of the preachers for the occasion was Rev J.Kratt, who enjoys the enviable distinction of serving the largest German speaking Baptisit Congregation in the UNited States and Canada, consisting of over six hundred members, located at Fourth and Mill Streets in Portland,Oregon. When you realize that there are about thirty three thousan German Baptists in the United States and Canada you can see the importance of this pulpit;and when you realize that Rev.Kratt has served this congregation in that church for a period of more than twenty eight years you begin to realize what an unusual minister Rev Kratt seems to be.And in addition to that we might add that he has a Sunday School class of one hundred young men which has been divided into two classes. He had with im his quartet, pictures of whom we reproduce in this paper, who have sung in this church for over eighteen years,Rev Kratt stated that they were so skilled in their music, and so sincere in their religious endeavor that he could preach a sermon and they would immediately sing a song, the most appropriate song for the purpose,to fit the semron, without any consultation or without any knowledge of what the text was to be or the sermon was to be about. That is such an unusual occurrence that it causes one to wonder at the possibilities of faithful Chrisitina effort and cooperative effort of the pastor and the choir. The quartet is composed of William Neubauer, first Tenor and director, who is sales manager for the Robertson Hardware and Steel Company in Portland;John Shappart, second tenor, who is connected with the Oregon Door Company;Edward Neubauer.first bass, whi os with the Fields Motor Company and H.W.Berteluit,second bass, who is connected with the Shulz Plumbing Company. Excellent addresses were delivered in German by Rev Kratt and Rev H.G Schmid of Stafford Baptist Church, and Rev G.W Plumer of our town who spoke in English.W.C Culbertson spoke briefly, eulogizing his friend,Chris Kraft, who is manager of Twin Rivers Farm, owned by Mr and Mrs W.C Culbertson. The bride groom and the bride also spoke eloquently and feelingly on their married career, and the successes and difficulties they had encountered. Rev Kratts parting remarks were;"The Lord bless you more and more, you and your children."Ps 115,14 If the Lord shall bless you more,he must have blessed you already. How about the last 25 years? If the Lord shall bless your children, you must have some-children are a gift from God and a blessing.he has blessed you in this way also. How empty is a silver wedding without his blessing. If God shall bless you more, you must keep on walking and working with him as you have done in the past. if the Lord will bless you more and more, the next 25 years will be happy years. He has promised ot be with us and go with us to the end of our earthly journey. We were greatly impresses by the enthusiasm shown by the German people in their song and devotions. We have never been anywhere where there was such enthusiastic singin by everyone, including Mrs Henry Krafts new baby. When you think of Silver Wedding Anniversaries you must admit that they are not being celebrated every day in our community.Twenty five years is a long period of time to sail successfully the sea of matrimony, and yet Rev Plumer reminded those present that he had beaten Mr and Mrs Kraft, in that he and Mrs Plumer had been married about thirty two years. The following programs were rendered; Song-All the way may Saviour leads me;Prayer-Rev H.G ;Son-"No never alone,Miss Freda Neubauer;Address-Rev H.G Shmid;Piano-Elizabeth Kraft;Solo-Freda Neubauer;Address-Rev J.Kratt;Quartet;Address-C.W.Culbertson;Duet-Mr and Mrs Henry Kraft;Address-Rev G.W PLumer;Recitation-Emil Kraft. After the program a bountiful supply of good eats was served and enjoyed by all ,the large party spent some time in visiting and wishing the Kraft family every good thing Additional Comments: Photocopy of the rest of the article was not found in my files.A photo was in the paper File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/clackamas/newspapers/silveran47gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 6.2 Kb
