All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com December 28, 2006, 10:43 am Canby Herald January 14, 1926 Mr.and Mrs fred HsmptonCelebrate Their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary The First Reunion With Eleven Children and Eigh Grandchildren present,Reunion was Beautiful Occasion Fifty years ago last Sunday Mr.and Mrs. Fred Hampton comprised a typical Eastern Couple,interested chiefly in themselves,and looking longingly into the futre with hopeful eyes.Today they are the parent sof eleven robust and reputable boys and girls who enjoyd the privelege of congregating at heold home in Canby on Sunday,January 10,to celebrate te golden wedding anniversary of thri beloved parents. Mr.and Mrs Hampton were marreid in Nebraska January 10,1876,and five years later left their native home to join the throng of emigrants westward.They first located in Portland.Forty two years agp they moved to Canby,bought a farm and erected a home where they have since resided and reared a family which enjoys the esteem of everybody in the community.Last Sunday happened to be the first time in the hihstory of that pioneer family where all members were present around the fireside atthe same time.The children are as follows:Charles Hampton,Longview,Wash.;Dr.G.B.Hampton,Spokane,Wash.;Dr.N.C.Hampton,Portland,Ore .;Mrs.C.R.Young,San Fransicso,Calif.;Mrs.Volney White,Monitor,Or.;Mrs.C.E.Lucke,Canby;Fred Hampton,Raymond,Wash.;Mrs.W.P.Leisman,La Grande,Or.;James Hampton,Canby;Wane Hampton,Portland;and Merrill hampton,Canby.All are married and with their families attended the reunioiin upon this memorable occasion. Mr.and Mrs.Hampton,Sr.,have twelve grandchildren,eight of whom were present at the golden wedding.Mrs.Hampton's brother ,R.W.Wilcox,of Grass Valley,Oregon,was also present.It is said to be the most pleasant event in the history of that family. The sky was clear during theday and a photographer was called out from Portland in the afternoon to get a picture of the family,united for the first time. Mr.and Mrs.Hampton were recipients of many beutiful and appropriate presents,and the floral tribute given the honored couple was of a most beutifull character.
